Day 1

Arrival & First Group Meal

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Your Arrival Time - greeted at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport, (try to arrive before 21:00)

  • Upon arrival - guides help with luggage & provide transportation 

  • Check into hotel & rest

  • 19:00 - dinner & briefing  (Taipei restaurant)

  • 22:00 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - Taipei Hotel

* Note: You are responsible for choosing and purchasing your own flights. This gives you scheduling freedom and ability to buy the way you like (money or points). Please plan arrival to TPE no later than 21:00 if possible. 

     This day is about arrival and helping to get you recovered and rested from your flight.  You'll be greeted at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). Your guides will help you with your luggage, bring you to your hotel, and get you checked in and settled.

     We will plan a group dinner for all riders who have arrived early enough, to meet one another and give a full briefing of the week ahead. After dinner, if you are recovering from jet lag, feel free to return to your room to sleep it off, or enjoy a bit more of what Taipei has to offer. Those that arrive too late to join for dinner will be briefed when they are fresh in the morning. 

Day 2

Taipei Road Cycling Culture & Yang Ming Shan

Taipei -> Yang Ming Shan -> Jin Gua Shi

Day's Ride Distance - 37 miles

Day's Vertical Gain - 4,500

Riding Style - mountain, riverside, urban, sightseeing

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​08:00-10:00 breakfast provided

  • 10:00 - ride classic Taipei mountain & riverside routes

  • Lunch - Taiwanese riverside lunch

  • Post Lunch - ride in Taipei to local sights

  • Afternoon - ride in SAG vehicle to eat local treat

  • 16:00 - ride in SAG vehicle to accommodations on north coast

  • Early dinner - near Jin Gua Shi

  • 20:30 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - north coast hotel

     Today you're bound to be buzzin as we hop on our bikes and set off for your first ride in Taiwan. The riding today will allow us to ease into the week, recover from traveling and see a bit of Taipei. 

     After a good Taiwanese breakfast, we'll check out the mountain roads that have shaped the Taiwanese riding culture. Then, you can spin the legs out as we hit the riverside park paths around Taipei. 

     We'll treat you to some unique stops along the way and provide insight into the Taiwanese way of life. We arrive back in Taipei early enough in the afternoon to enjoy the sightseeing and culture. After an afternoon treat (Taiwan style), we'll load into the SAG vehicle and drive you to our accommodations for the evening on the north coast. Dinner will be early to allow you retreat to your room in case jet lag is kicking in. 

Day 3

Sea and Small Mountain Towns

Coastal Fishing Towns -> Mountain Roads

Day's Ride Distance - 55 miles

Day's Vertical Gain - 6,700

Riding Style - coast, mountains, countryside

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Breakfast - traditional Taiwanese

  • AM - ride along the north coast, up Jiufen to Pingxi

  • Lunch - restaurant in the mountains

  • Afternoon - ride curvy mountain roads to Yilan

  • Post Ride - relaxation in Yilan

  • Dinner- early dinner at restaurant with a view

  • 6:30 - ride in SAG vehicles to Hualien

  • 21:00 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - Hualian hotel

     We'll start to see some of the big views on today's ride; starting with the north coast near Jin Gua Shi (which is so unique it has been used at inspiration for video game backdrops. 

     We'll climb up into the mountains to start seeing the coast from up high. Lunch will be in traditional Taiwanese village where releasing fire lanterns into the sky for good luck is normal. After lunch, we can look forward to descending much of the elevation we gained in the morning. We'll have a chance relax in Yilan before an early dinner, where the view, and atmosphere is memorable. 

Day 4

Coastal Spin & Fresh Mochi (Light Day)

Hualian -> East Coast Spin

Day's Ride Distance - 20-50 miles (options)

Day's Vertical Gain - 250-1000 feet (options)

Riding Style - coast

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Breakfast - local Taiwanese hotspot 

  • AM - coastal spin ride (prepare for next big day)

  • Lunch - Hualian favorite and fresh mochi

  • Afternoon - relax & rest: options for sightseeing, massage

  • Dinner- Hualian restaurant

  • 21:00 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - Hualian hotel

     You'll have options today. We'll focus on getting you ready to conquer the the Taiwan KOM Taroko Climb the following day. We'll enjoy a lazy morning schedule, tasty breakfast, then head out for a coastal, flat spin. The ride will have options to extend the distance or add vertical if you desire. We'll work with each rider individually to help design their best riding plan for the day. 

     The afternoon will provide time and options to sightsee, walk the town, eat fresh mochi (a traditional product here), get a massage or sleep.  

Day 5

Taroko National Park & Wuling (Taiwan KOM)

Taroko Gorge -> Wuling

Day's Ride Distance - 103 miles

Day's Vertical Gain - 15,104 feet

Riding Style - mountains, canyon, high-alpine

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Breakfast - traditional Taiwanese

  • AM - ride from the entrance of Taroko to Wuling

  • Lunch - provided via SAG vehicle throughout ride

  • Afternoon - descend Wuling to bottom of Taroko

  • Post Ride - eat another lunch and relax

  • Dinner- big refueling dinner

  • 21:00 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - Hualian hotel

     How deep will you dig? This is your chance to conquer what has bee named as one of the hardest climbs in the world. Today's ride is what the word "epic" should be reserved for. You will have to push yourself on this day in order to complete the ride, maybe farther than you ever have before. We'll support you the whole way with food, water, and a SAG vehicle when needed.

     This route includes 50 miles of climbing from just above sea level to an elevation of around 10,000 feet. You're riding through the heart of Taroko National Park where the views of the canyons and mountains are breathtaking. You'll pass ancient evergreens that are thousands of years old. After we celebrate together at the top, you'll have the option to descend back down. Woooohooo! 

Day 6

Recovery - Taiwan East Coast Tourist

Hualian -> Yuli -> Hualian

Day's Ride Distance - 0-20 miles (optional)

Day's Vertical Gain - 0-500 feet (optional)

Riding Style - rice fields

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Breakfast - Taiwanese brunch or western option

  • AM - optional field trip through rice fields (with SAG vehicle)

  • Lunch - Yuli noodles

  • Afternoon - return to Hualian and enjoy Taiwanese snacks

  • Dinner- Hualian restaurant

  • 21:00 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - Hualian hotel

     Let's rest today. You worked so hard climbing Taroko to Wuling yesterday, take the day off. If your rest style is a spin, don't worry, we provide you the option of spinning through some rice fields. It's beautiful. 

     But if you prefer to stay off the bike for a day, you'll have the option of jumping in our SAG vehicle for a field trip through the aboriginal towns and rice fields to Yuli, where we'll enjoy their local noodles. We'll be sure to share interesting cultural and historical information along the way. And how about a very natural, local hot spring to relax in?

Day 7

Breathtaking Costal Ride & Rolling Hills

Hualien -> Yilan

Day's Ride Distance - 43 miles

Day's Vertical Gain - 6,100 feet 

Riding Style - coastal, rolling hills

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Breakfast - traditional Taiwanese

  • AM - ride breathtaking coastal road northbound

  • Lunch - Yilan restaurant

  • Post Ride - visit brewey and whiskey distillery

  • Dinner- Yilan restaurant

  • 21:00 - group guided-time concludes

  • Accommodations - Yilan B&B

     The good views haven't ended. Today's ride will treat you to motivational and inspiration coastal cliff views as we pedal back northbound. The rolling hills along the coastline will offer a welcome rest to the legs after the big climb of Taroko earlier this week. Enjoy the renewed power you feel from the dense, sea-level air and soak it all it. Today is a dreamy ride! 


Day 8

The Northern Traverse Back to Taipei

Northern Traverse -> Taipei

Day's Ride Distance - 64 miles

Day's Vertical Gain - 6,314 feet 

Riding Style - tropical, dense forest, mountain roads

Day's Itinerary:

  • ​Breakfast - traditional Taiwanese

  • AM - ride up the east side of the Northern Traverse

  • Lunch - small mountain restaurant

  • Afternoon - descend into Taipei with scooter culture

  • Dinner - celebratory group dinner

  • 20:00 - after-dinner drinks & bbq, Japanese style

  • Accommodations - Taipei hotel

     Our final day of riding! You have one last big effort in you before you can spend a few days recovering and relishing in the winter training efforts you just put in! Today's route is not as famous as the Taiwan KOM Taroko route, but it is just as special in its own way. After the hard work is over, you'll have the chance to witness Taiwanese scooter culture as we descend into Taipei. We'll finish the ride with a easy spin along the riverside. 

     Our final evening together will allow us the chance to enjoy drinks and bbq (Japanese style) to socialize and reminisce about the incredible week of riding Taiwan we just spent together. Thank you for joining this special trip!

     You did it! You just rode some of the most spectacular roads in the world. No doubt that we are all feeling energized and grateful for the opportunities that bicycles bring us, to experience the world, bond with one another and have fun! And, once you recover, you'll feel like a very powerful rider, ready to set your year on fire! 

     Because you choose your own flights home, this day will revolve around accommodating multiple different flight times and post-trip plans. We'll provide you a send off breakfast, transportation back to the airport, and our sincere gratitude for allowing us the chance to take care of you for the week. Maybe we will even have the chance to start discussing where you'd like to ride next!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why go to Taiwan?

Taiwan is special and misunderstood. Taiwan has incredible mountain ranges, is covered in technical riding, lovely people and culture. Most people don't realize it is ideal for a winter training camp. It has the famous Taiwan KOM route and bubble tea was created here, and it has so much more!  

What makes Sig's Rides' trips different?

We include everything and make it simple for you. No fine print or tricks. From the moment you land until you take off, everything is taken care of and included in the price. Also, Taiwan is unique and relatively unknown (that is going to change). 

How are the routes chosen?

We live in Taiwan in the winter and Colorado in the summer. Riding  and exploring these zones are our passions. We're involved in local clubs and advocacy groups. We build the routes and logistics around the goal of giving you the best riding experience of your life, regardless of skill level. We've traveled the world to ride and race and can confidently tell you this place must be experienced. 

Can I rent a bike?

Yes, if you prefer not to bring your own bike. we work with a few partners to supply the level of bike you prefer. We'll discuss with you to match you with the right bike for the right price. 

How high is Taiwan's elevation?

Most accommodations will be near sea level. We will ride on some roads as high as 10k'.

Should I worry about not being able to speak Mandarin?

Don't worry at all! We speak both English and Mandarin and will support you with translation every step of the way.

What if I can't complete the routes?

Don't worry! These routes are designed to allow you to push yourself and reach challenging goals you set, but whenever needed, the SAG vehicle, rest, food, hydration and mechanical support are ready to support you and give you a ride.

Is this tour guided?

Yes. This tour is fully-guided and supported. You'll be well-taken care of by our team. 

Will we climb the famous Taiwan KOM route?

Yep! You'll have your chance to conquer the Taroko Gorge climbe to Wuling. We'll support you the whole way.  

Is Taiwan a democracy?

Yes. They have their own freely elected officials, currency, laws, and culture. 

Do you offer travelers insurance?

No, but we can provide you information for a company that does. 

Which airport should I fly into?

TPE - Taipei Taoyuan International Airport.

How much do flights to Taiwan cost?

$500-$800 is a typical roundtrip price from the US. 

Do you need a visa to travel to Taiwan?

Most travelers to not need a visa (US, Canada, UK, Aus, NZ).


Is the $500 deposit refundable?

Yes. Your $500 deposit to hold your spot is 100% refundable if your plans change.
